Kay Harrer Herzog, aged 84, passed to the afterlife on May 8, 2021 in Chestertown, MD. Kay was born and raised in Utica, New York, the only child of Ralph and Mildred Scott Harrer. She graduated from Utica Free Academy and Elmira College, Elmira, New York. Prior to her marriage, Kay had been employed by the General Electric Company in Utica and by ITT, Inc. in New Jersey.
Kay was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Robert Edward Herzog. During their married life, they resided in New Jersey, Missouri, and Wilmington, DE., where Bob had been employed by Hercules, Inc. and Himont, Inc. During her years in Wilmington, Kay was an active member of the Literacy Volunteers of America and a volunteer reading tutor at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Delaware. She also served as the president of the American Association of University Women, Mill Creek Hundred chapter. The Newark Empowerment Center was often a recipient of her homemade cooking and baking. She was a 40-year member at St. Barnabas' Episcopal Church, and more recently a member of United Church of Christ, Newark, DE and Shrewsbury Parish, Kennedyville, MD. Kay enjoyed embroidery, baking, music, and spending time with her family.
Kay is survived by her three children, Susan Calloway of Newark, Delaware, Lynn Slupski and husband William of Jacksonville, Florida, and Robert Herzog and wife Lynn Pool of Orlando, Florida, as well as five grandchildren, Rachel, Jordan, Alex, Grace and Ben, and a great-grandson, Asher.
A memorial service will be held at St. Barnabas' Episcopal Church, 2800 Duncan Road, Wilmington, DE at 1 pm on June 10th . The service will be followed by burial of ashes in the Memorial Garden on the church property. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research or to The Bob Herzog Family Fund for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Delaware.
