Kathy JoAnn Burleson, Ed.D, 58 of Lubbock, Texas passed away peacefully on 13 April 2022. Kathy was born in Lufkin, Texas on 19 March 1964. Kathy graduated from Stephen F. Austin University with a Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Education.
Kathy had a long a successful career in education. She was an accomplished Elementary School teacher prior to joining the Department of Defense Dependents School (DoDDS). There she lived in England as well as Japan teaching the children of miliary personnel on US Military bases. After returning to the US she worked at Texas Tech and West Texas A&M University. During this time, she earned her Doctorate of Education in Instructional Technology in May of 2000.
Kathy worked in the private sector as a Corporate Training Manager for Datatrac/CSC before moving into working with non-profit organization since 2008. Kathy worked with HIS Bridgebuilders for 5 years, setting up adult training programs for life skills and job skills in south Dallas. During this time, Kathy spent her free time working with the Lighthouse Baptist School in Nicaragua providing curriculum development and train the trainer classes to the teachers. She then moved to Catarina, Nicaragua to pursue her true passion in 2015.
Kathy gave herself to the people of Caterina, Nicaragua and they reciprocated by her being part of their family. She served the Lord both in the church and school. She loved the teachers and the children and they loved her.
She is survived by her mother, Judy Burleson of Dallas, Texas; her brother, Randall Burleson of Virginia; her nieces Alicia and Katy Burleson and her nephews Zachary Burleson and Ryan Welsh; and her aunt Sharon O'Quinn. Along with many friends both in the United States and Nicaragua who loved her and will miss her dearly, but know she is with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Funeral arrangements will be held in the chapel at Resthaven Funeral Home, Lubbock, Texas at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 21, 2022. Grave side service to follow.
