Kathy L Avara, age 72, of Port Mansfield, Texas passed away on August 28th due to complications of cancer while surrounded by friends and family. Kathy was born October 2, 1949 in Seattle, Washington, the daughter of Walter and Rae Karnes. Kathy married John Avara December 18, 1976. Married for 45 years at her time of passing, they were always together with friends or family. Kathy and John met at her work and their love flourished blessing them with two sons along with eight grandchildren whom she loved dearly. She is survived by her spouse John, sons Jon and Kevin, niece Corrie, grandchildren Juliana, Annabelle, Emily, Jon, Paul, Kelcey, Kayleigh and Briana, along with her brother Clifford. She was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Rae, siblings Cheryl, Terry, Jimmie, and Sonny, and grandchild Andrew. Kathy originally worked in banking where she met her husband John before starting her own plant nursery business in the Houston area. She was loved by all those who she provided trees and flowers for and was highly respected in the landscape and nursery industry. She retired from the trade in 2014 and moved to Port Mansfield, a town she loved with the fishing she desired. There she met her many wonderful friends that have been loved by her ever since. Kathy absolutely loved quilting and was always working on her next masterpiece to gift to her long line of friends. Friends and members of her family had a special quilt made that they will have to remember Kathy and her favorite pastime. She spent a large quantity of time toiling away on these and was always rewarded with the smile she brought to others with her one-of-a-kind works of art. When not quilting, she was always ready to fish. She would cruise the bay searching for her next big flounder that she most enjoyed catching. There was no place on earth that she would rather be than here in Port. Services and other arrangements will be announced when a date and time are determined. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Duddlesten Funeral Home, 604 W. Hidalgo Ave., Raymondville, Texas.
