73, of Fishers, Indiana, passed away January 29, 2022. She was born October 3, 1948 in Evansville, Indiana to the late Ervin F. and Barbara (O'Donnell) Britton. Kathleen attended North High School where she was editor of the school newspaper and a member of student council. She went on to study art education and was a member of Phi Mu at the University of Evansville. It was there she met Mark Stephens, also of Evansville, and they were married in 1969. Kathleen's early career was to care for her five children?a job at which she excelled.
Kathleen volunteered at Birthright, Inc. to provide support to young mothers and the rights of the unborn. She also was a CASA-appointed guardian ad litem for Kids' Voice of Indiana.
Kathleen worked as the conference coordinator for Butler University. She was a devout member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, where she taught art in the parish school and also worked as the parish facilities manager.
Visitation will be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church (7200 Sarto Dr., Indpls., IN 46240) on Sunday, February 6, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., with a Rosary following the Visitation at 7:00 p.m. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial for Kathleen will take place at St. Pius X Catholic Church on Monday, February 7, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. Please bring and wear a mask. Kathleen is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Mark Stephens; children Greg (Carol) Stephens, Colleen (Dustin) New, David Stephens, Jodie (Adam) Searcy, and Jackie (John) Zangrilli; sister Linda Shevlin; brother-in-law Tom Harvey; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandson William Knych Stephens, brother Barry Britton, and sister Sharon Harvey.
