Kathleen Mary Nelson was born to Elizabeth and Gunard Nelson, July 19th, 1961.
She went to her Heavenly Home on November 26th, 2022 after a long, bravely-fought battle with cancer. She was 61 years old. Kathleen grew up on the family farm on Camano Island and attended school in Stanwood, graduating in 1979. She was a keen Track competitor and for several years held the school record for running the mile.
She attended Seattle Pacific University for one year, then was encouraged by her peers to try out for fashion-modeling. She enjoyed some success in this, traveling from Europe to the Far East.
After this adventure, she attended Virginia Intermont College to pursue her life-long interest of Horses, graduating with a degree in Horsemanship and Elementary Education.
She used her new skills while employed in California until returning home to Camano Island in 1990.
She then worked nearly 30 years for Village Community Services, thus following another long-held desire, that of helping those with disabilities and eventually becoming Director of Residential Services.
Kathleen was also a devoted mother to her son David, raising him joyfully as the pride of her life, and making many sacrifices in order to send him to a Christian school.
Kathleen was predeceased by her father and an infant brother.
She is survived by her son, David Nelson; her mother, Elizabeth; her brothers and their wives: Jon and Beth Nelson, Roger and April Nelson. Nephews: Joshua (Elinor) Nelson, Nathan Nelson. Nieces: Rachelle, Heidi, and Joya Nelson; and many cousins in Seattle and the U.K. She also leaves behind numerous friends.
