Kathleen R. Leid, 83, of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania passed away on March 05, 2021.
Born in Erie County PA, Kay was graduated from Lawrence Park High School, attended Edinboro State College and began her career at Erie Insurance Exchange, serving as personal secretary to H.O. Hirt, founder and President. She retired from the Senate of PA after working 25 years for Senator Michael O'Pake doing research, writing and advocacy in health and human services, and drafting legislation including bills to expand the practice of Certified Nurse-midwives, and crea ting the Children's Trust Fund.
Kay was an AFS Exchange student to Germany 1954, lived on Aruba 1963-64, and with her husband Kent traveled extensively throughout the US and Canada. A lover of the outdoors, she taught primitive camping to Girl Scouts and leaders, and enjoyed boating on the Chesapeake Bay. She had been a board member of the Monday Club, the Shipoke Neighborhood Association, and several statewide family support and child abuse prevention organizations. She volunteered for more than two decades with Vision Resources Association (formerly the Center for the Blind) airing a weekly news broadcast. Her passions were public policy, reading, playing with food, and gardening. While a resident of Shipoke, she chaired the committee of residents who designed and created Race Street Park.
