On December 8th, 2020, Kathleen Kay (Albrecht) Muxen loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away at the age of 69.
Kathy was born October 17th, 1951, in Redfield, SD to Phyllis (Leesch) and Roy Albrecht. She attended Northern State University and received a bachelor's degree in business administration. Following graduation, she worked at the South Dakota Developmental Center - Redfield where she met and married Barry Muxen. They were married on September 12th, 1980 and settled on a farm in the Doland area. She worked at the bank for 27 years until branch closure. They raised one son, Andrew Muxen. Kathy and Barry retired and eventually moved to Rapid City, SD.
Kathy had a passion for community work and a love of rural South Dakota. She founded Women in Action and the Doland Corn Fest. Kathy was also active in the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Turton, SD. She was admired for her positive attitude, enthusiasm, and leadership in the community. She was loved for her warmth and acceptance towards others. Kathy enjoyed flower gardening, quilting, music, and baking. She was known for her excellent pie crusts. She also enjoyed spending time with family and friends and supporting her child and grandchildren by traveling to many activities.
Kathy was preceded in death by her father, Roy Albrecht and mother, Phyllis Albrecht. She will be sadly missed by her husband, Barry of Rapid City; her son, Andrew (Jessica) and their sons LeRoy and Fox of Cedar Rapids, IA; and her siblings: Mary (LeRoy) Timmerman of West Point, NE; David (Yvette) Albrecht of Redfield, SD; and Lori (Jim) Elie of Clark, SD; and several nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 12th, 2020, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Redfield at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be prior to the service, from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow the service at St. Bernard's Catholic Cemetery in Redfield. Memorials may be sent to Lupus Foundation of America.
Masks and social distancing are encouraged at the church. The Mass will be live-streamed to the funeral home's website, under Kathy's obituary. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hyke Funeral Home of Redfield. (www.hykefuneralhome.com)
