Kathleen A. Francis, of Easton, Maryland, a retired public school teacher and community leader, died peacefully in Knoxville, Tennessee, November 14, 2022. Born in Hackensack, New Jersey, August 30, 1923, she was one of seven children of the late William G. and Josephine Francis. After graduating from Hackensack High School in 1941, she attended William Patterson University earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education in 1945. She earned her Masters Degree in Administration from Montclair State University in 1954. She also took additional classes at the University of Maryland. In 1945, she moved to Easton where she taught at the Moton School for five years before accepting the additional part-time responsibilities of Supervisor for Black Schools in Talbot County, a position she held until retiring in 1979.
A member of Christ Church in Easton, she had served as a member of the Altar Guild, the Vestry and as a Sunday School teacher. Her professional memberships included the Retired Teachers Association in both Talbot County and the State of Maryland and the National Education Association.
Very active in the community, she held board positions on the Talbot County Board of Education, Chesapeake College, Talbot Hospice Foundation, the Mental Health Association of Talbot County, the Memorial Hospital Board of Directors, the Talbot County Free Library, the Talbot County Historical Society, Bethany House, the United Fund of all Seasons. She was also a member of AARP, The Talbot County Mentors and the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Escort Service.
Kathleen is survived by several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services will be held at Christ Church, Easton, on December 3, at 11:00 a.m.
