Kathleen Harris David departed this world on June 22, 2020 to be reunited with her Heavenly Father. Gloria Kathleen Harris was born on December 30, 1925 in Chattaroy, West Virginia, to Amanda (Salmons) Harris and William Jennings Harris. Kathleen graduated from Chattaroy High School in 1942. After high school, she worked for the Navy Department in Washington DC to help with the WWII effort. Upon returning to Mingo County, she married and had a son, Larry E. David. Kathleen worked in a variety of jobs throughout her life, including office management for Mingo County Tax Department, the Williamson Mayor's Office, and the Mingo County School Board.
A life-long Methodist, Kathleen was a treasured member of several church congregations over the years in Williamson, WV, in Aiken, SC, and in Hampstead, NC. She enjoyed singing in the church choir and sharing her favorite recipes by cooking for church dinners. Throughout her life, Kathleen strove to serve the Lord through acts of service whether through working in the church, making children's blankets, or donating generously to a wide variety of non-profit organizations. She was a very special woman and touched many people's lives.
Kathleen is now united in heaven with her parents and her siblings, Glen Felty, Roy Harris, and Robert Harris, who have gone before her. She is survived by her brother - James Murrel Harris of Cincinnati, OH, her son - Larry (Darlene) David of Hampstead, NC, her grandchildren - Laura Beth Payne of Hampstead, NC and Jonathan (Aurora) David of Pacific Grove, CA, and her great-grandchildren - Emerson Payne and Harrison Payne of Hampstead, NC as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Due to the current health crisis caused by COVID19, the family will be having a private Celebration of Life ceremony at Hampstead United Methodist Church on Tuesday, June 30, 2020. A graveside ceremony will occur at a later date at Mountain View Memory Gardens in Williamson, WV.
