Kathleen D. Bolger Barnett peacefully passed away on September 11, 2021at Prince of Peace Retirement Community in Sioux Falls, SD.
Kathy was born to Michael and Mary Bolger on June 27, 1932. She was 100% Irish and proud of it! Kathy grew up with her siblings, Mary Ester, Monica, Brain (deceased 2010), and Terry, in the north end of Sioux Falls, where she had a happy, full childhood. She enjoyed visiting Terrace Park and ice-skating on Covell Lake. Kathy graduated from Cathedral High School in 1950.
In February of 1954, Kathy traveled to Fort Monmouth, New Jersey to marry Joseph H. Barnett, her childhood neighbor and sweetheart, while Joe was serving in the U. S. Army.
Kathy and Joe settled in Aberdeen, SD where they raised a large family of nine children, Joe (Debbie, deceased 2018), John, Paul, Sheila Eckrich (Jerry), Rita Herges (Mark), Teresa Livermont (Joe), Bill (Vonnie), Jim (Shawn), and Tricia Carda (Vern). Kathy raised her children with the deepest of love and devotion.
Kathy will be remembered by her seventeen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and five step grandchildren. Her love for her Catholic faith, family and friends kept her life full after Joe passed in 1985.
She loved spending time at her Lake Pickerel cabin with her family and friends. Kathy liked to say, "There's always room for one more," an apt expression as the matriarch of such a large family. Kathy loved vanilla ice cream, coffee, dogs, bright sunshine, and babies . . . and more ice cream!
