Katherine "Kathy" Ratley Almond, 77, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, died on December 27, 2020 from complications of Covid-19.
She was the daughter of the late Durham and Katherine (Melvin) Ratley of Red Springs, NC. She earned degrees in Sociology from Meredith College and a Master of Social Work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
After a long and varied career spanning more than 40 years of service as a compassionate and dedicated clinical social worker, she retired from what is now the Behavioral Health Division of Rockingham County Health and Human Services.
She is survived by her children: daughter Elizabeth Myers (Frank) and grandchildren Kathleen and Daniel of Raleigh, NC; daughter Becky Hambrick (Joel) and grandchildren Nathan and Claire of Cary, NC; son Marcus Almond and grandson Davis of Hickory, NC; siblings: Peggy McNeill and Charles Ratley; former husband Bill Almond, Jr. and mother-in-law Doris Almond Peeler and many much-loved nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
A celebration of Kathy's life will be held at Oak Island, NC later this year.
