Katherine Jeanette Verheye, 90, died peacefully in her sleep on October 1, 2021 at Northwoods Village at Edison Lakes in Mishawaka. In her last days she was surrounded by her family. Preceding her in death is her husband, Lawrence (Dutch) Verheye and her daughter, Patty (Verheye) Duzy. Also her mother and father, Carl and Ruth Hunsberger and her brother, Carl Hunsberger Jr. and his wife Geraldine (Deannie) Hunsberger. Surviving are her daughters, Delores "Dee" (Tom) Fox and Lynnette (Tony) Hanes; 5 grandsons, Shane (Shonda) Pfeiffer, Brian (Emily) Fox, Brandon (Rena) Fox, Joshua (Lee Anne Boswell) Hanes, and Jacob (Kayla) Hanes; 10 great grandchildren, Sheridan Fox, Hayden Fox, Reagan Fox, Dylan Fox, Zach Storm, Joey Storm, Henry Pfeiffer, Matthew Pfeiffer, Colton Hanes, and Easton Hanes. Jeanette lived in the Wakarusa area her entire life and the last 7 years at Miller's Assisted Living, before moving to Northwoods Village. She was best known as the mail carrier in the rural Wakarusa area, having worked for the local US Post Office for over 20 years. Prior to the Post Office she had also worked at Ball Band in Mishawaka and Lehman's Poultry in Wakarusa. She was very involved as a grandmother to her grandchildren. In her retirement years she enjoyed spending time with them. She also enjoyed gardening, travel, and cooking. She attended the Oak Grove Missionary Church. Visitation will be from 5-8pm on Thursday, October 7th at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home at 501 North Elkhart St., Wakarusa and one hour prior to the 10:30am funeral services on Friday, October 8th at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home.
