Katharine Blodget Fisher (Kappy)
Katharine Blodget Fisher, age 93 passed peacefully on June 24, 2022, at Kendal at Hanover in Hanover, NH. At the time of her death Kappy held the hand of her daughter Sarah, and she received calls from her other daughters Constance, Lowrie & Kit.
Kappy was born November 28th, 1928, in New York City. She was one of four children of Donald M. and Barbara B. Blodget. Kappy earned her associate's degree from Briarcliff Junior College. On a subsequent visit to Dartmouth College, she met Walter L. Fisher on a blind date, and they would later marry on February 3rd 1950. Kappy & Walter eventually settled on a small farm in New Canaan, CT where they raised their four daughters. There was never a quiet moment to be had. On a typical morning one daughter might be late for the school bus while another would race to feed the horses, sheep, rabbits, dogs & cats. On school days Kappy had one rule for her daughters: lay out their clothes the night before so they knew what they were going to wear, and don't argue. Kappy's compassion, empathy and kind heart followed her throughout her life.
Kappy was very active volunteering her time at the nursery school, Red Cross & Children's Services where she was head of the board. Her free time she devoted to playing tennis, paddle tennis and squash with friends at the New Canaan Country Club. Later in life with only one daughter at home Kappy and her dear friend Betty Kay decided to teach quilting & smocking. Drawing on that experience they wrote two books, Quilting in Squares and The Craft of Smocking, published by Charles Scribner's Sons. In 1983 Kappy & Walter moved to Mason's Island in Mystic, CT, where Kappy started to teach classes in rug hooking, her newest hobby. She began taking more painting classes with various local artists focusing primarily on landscapes. She loved the bucolic scenes of New England - the barns, fields, rivers, lakes and mountains. Kappy painted in all medians - acrylic, water color, oil and pastels. Through the years she sold hundreds of paintings many times donating the proceeds to charity. She received ribbons in juried shows and gifted her art to family & friends. For years Kappy and a friend had great fun running a small antique business through which they bought and sold antique country furniture at indoor & outdoor shows.
In 2000, Kappy and Walter moved to Kendal in Hanover. At that time, they also acquired a property in Orford, NH where they built a small farm and raised miniature horses for 12 years.
Kappy was an integral part of the Kendal art community, where for more than 10 years she was in charge of the art gallery.
After her husband Walter passed in 2013, Kappy was so fortunate to find love for a second time, with a fellow Kendal resident Delmar (Turk) Hughes. Turk & Kappy had a "Blessing of Love" ceremony, and spent 6 special years together before Turk passed.
Kappy is survived by her four daughters, Constance Shrecengost (Curtis) of Wilmington, NC; Sarah Connors (Joseph Nicholas) of Vero Beach, FL; Lowrie Ann of Neenah, WI; Katharine Simpson (Robert) of Pinehurst, NC; and four grandson's, Walter Hatcher, Robert (Brad) Simpson (wife Kathryn); Nicholas Connors, Jeffrey (Jeff) Simpson, her two great-grandson's Braddock & Colin Simpson, and her brother Henry Blodget. Kappy was predeceased by her husband Walter Lowrie Fisher, her brother Donald Blodget and sister Debby Tate.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday August 11, 2022, 2:00 PM at Kendal at Hanover retirement community in Hanover, NH.
