Karl Dorr was born on August 23, 1941 in Beaumont, Texas and died on August 10, 2022 at his home in Santa Fe, New Mexico.In his final hours, Karl was surrounded by his family, his lifelong friend Jim Orcutt, and his dog, Cody. Karl graduated from Odessa High School in 1959, excelling in both academics and sports. He played right halfback for the Peacock Military Academy football team and ran the 100-yard dash on the Odessa High School track team, making the local paper for his triumphs in both sports.Karl graduated from North Texas State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1964. He began his career working in the insurance industry, but soon became an ardent medical rights advocate for individuals and families after seeing the injured struggle with their insurance claims. This passion led Karl to attend the South Texas College of Law where he received his Juris Doctor. In 1974, he moved to San Antonio, Texas to join Southers, Goldberg, & Lyons as a medical malpractice associate. He then became a partner with Gardner, Ferguson, Sommers, & Dorr before opening a solo practice in 1982.Karl was an avid outdoorsman who loved cycling, skiing, hiking, and big game hunting. This love of the outdoors inspired him to move to Evergreen, Colorado with his family in 1991. Karl's adventures took him from the mountains of the Americas to the Swiss Alps. Never content going quietly into that good night, in his final months with us, Karl had one last trip to Switzerland planned with his family.Karl was survived by his son, Scott Dorr, and daughter, Kristi Dorr.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Soul Animal Sanctuary which spans nearly 150 acres protected by the Santa Fe Conservation Trust in Glorietta, New Mexico. https://www.heartandsoulnm.org/make-a-donation (https://www.heartandsoulnm.org/make-a-donation)
