August 14, 1948 - January 16, 2021 MISHAWAKA - Karen Cassandra Stemes, 72, passed away at her home on Behney Avenue, Mishawaka on Saturday, January 16th, 2021. She was born in Plainview, Texas on August 14, 1948 to Richard C. and Beatrice Hamman. On October 4, 1969 she married the love of her life, Thomas Lee Stemes. They just celebrated their 52nd Wedding Anniversary. He is survived by their four children: Cassandra Stemes of Mishawaka, Jennifer (William) Murrmann of Elkhart, Kimberly (Brandon) Hale of Mishawaka, and Thomas (Amanda) Stemes, JR. of Osceola. Seven grandchildren; Melony Murrmann, Hilary (Louis) Juarez, Noah Murrmann, Karissa (Eddie) Bennett, Christian Stemes, and Sarah and Dallas Hale. One great-grandson Parker Nicodemus and was awaiting her first great-granddaughter in May. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Richard H. (Dianne) Hamman. Karen retired from the Mishawaka Water Dept. as Administrative Secretary. She continued as a Mary Kay Beauty Consultant. Karen knew no stranger and was loved by all that new her. She was a member of BNI of Michiana, and a 52+ year member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church where she was part of many clubs and societies. Funeral services for Karen will be held at Chapel Hill Funeral Home on Xxxx Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Karen's memory. Karen loved all her clubs and organizations but she cherished most the time she spent with her family. Especially at her daughters home where she enjoyed cookouts and nightly summer pontoon rides down the river. Karen will be missed dearly by all who knew her.
Services for Karen will be held privately. Friends may visit on Friday January 22, 2021 from 10AM-12PM at Chapel Hill Funeral Home 10776 McKinley Hwy Osceola, IN 46561. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memory Gardens. Chapel Hill is honored to serve the Stemes Family.
