Karen Ann Shaw, 79, of Harbor Springs, formerly St. Clair, Michigan, died November 2, 2021.
Karen was born on July 11, 1942, the daughter of John and Ina (Horton) Campbell. She graduated from Marysville High School in 1960. After high school she enrolled at Central Michigan University, where she was active in the cheerleading program and graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1964. While at Central her best friend set her up on a blind date with Kenneth Shaw who attended the University of Michigan. They were married on June 26, 1965, and spent the next 56 years happily married. They still maintain lifelong friendships with those they were close with during these early years.
Karen worked as an elementary art teacher until the birth of her first child. Later in life, Karen opened The Bellflower, a women's retail store in St. Clair, which gained quite a loyal clientele over its 10 years of operation. She employed her friends, her children, and even had Ken in the store every night after closing balancing her books.
She was an extremely loving and social person and made friends quickly. Her friends group was appropriately known as "The Cluckers" due to their boisterous nature and contagious laughter. She also belonged to "The Lambs" which was her women's tennis group in Port Huron.
Karen would frequently visit Harbor Springs to ski and eventually built a second home there in 1996. When Ken retired in 2011, they decided to make their vacation home their full-time residence.
Karen also enjoyed traveling, spending time with her grandchildren, and a love of nature. Scuba diving was always a joy for her, especially along The Wall in the Cayman Islands, with her last dive being on the Great Barrier Reef.
She is survived by the love of her life, Ken Shaw of Harbor Springs; her daughter Tracy (Jon) Zulauf of Wheaton, Illinois; son, Kevin (Amy) Shaw of East Grand Rapids; grandchildren, Jenna, Ashley, and Brian Zulauf and Ryan and Olivia Shaw; her brother-in-law Roger Shaw of Cape Canaveral, Florida; as well as countless friends.
