Karen grew up in Silver Spring Maryland, graduated from Wheaton High School and worked for a government contractor where she met her husband, James Schall.
In 1970 she moved to Tennessee and started her new adventures. While in Knoxville, she was active at Erin Presbyterian Church, the Girl Scouts, the Smokey Mountain Quilt guild and on the Board for Sunset Gap. Also, while living in Knoxville, she started and ran her own graphic arts company, Chipwood Graphics, which served small print shops. She also realized her lifelong joy of horses while riding with the UT Equestrian Club and continued riding until her death.
In the early 1990's she and her husband left city life for the country in Morgan County. There they built their beautiful log home. Being both the home builder and home maker, this new home allowed her to enjoy gardening, nature, her horses, and all kinds of animals that came to visit and stayed. While in Morgan County, she was active at Bethel Presbyterian Church in Kingston Tn. She started working at the Coalfield Library and also served on the Morgan County Library board. She participated in "English as a Second Language" classes and she served on various charitable organizations such as Love Kitchen, Morgan County Regional ministries and Family Promise.
Karen was known for her creativity, volunteerism, and love of life. All who knew her will greatly miss her.
