Karen Brown
Help us celebrate Karen! Please share your stories and photos, and invite others who remember Karen.
Karen Brown was a loving wife, sister, friend but the name she was most proud of was just "Maw". Karen was born August 23, 1927 to Franklin Robert and Frieda Gertrude Brown in Burlington, Iowa. She graduated high school at 16 years of age. She played basketball and was very active in her Church's youth program. On June 29, 1947, she married her soulmate, Thomas Brown. For 68 years they were inseparable before Tom preceded her in 2015. Karen's greatest accomplishment was the adoption of both of her sons, Phillip and Patrick. She was a wonderful mother that doted on her boys and involved herself in everything they did. She was a boy scout troop leader, and never missed a baseball game, football game or soccer game. In recent years her love for her grandsons, Cody, Wyatt and Levi, who fondly referred to her as "Maw" were her greatest joys. She attended many choir and band concerts and as many Special Olympic events. She also enjoyed going to see her son Phillip play the drums. Some of her personal accomplishments included many mission trips throughout the world. Her mission trip to the Holyland was her favorite. She felt it was her civic duty to help spread the word of God, and tell people the importance of having Jesus in their life. Karen traveled to the lower 48 states including Alaska. She was a charter member of Redbud Baptist Church in Lubbock, and she spent 28 years teaching young people about Jesus. Additionally, she was an avid bowler and was proud that she did bowl a 285 at one time. Karen "Maw" Brown passed from this earth on June 6th, 2021 into the arms of Jesus. Also waiting was her soulmate, Tom, her son Pat, her mother, father and brother along with many family and friends. The homecoming will be magnificent. Karen is survived by her son Phillip; wife Misty, Grandsons; Cody, Wyatt and Levi. As well as her many friends whom she loved dearly.
