Karen Hodel Andrews, 74, of Leland, NC, died Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at Davis Nursing Home in Wilmington following a long illness.
She was born on December 13, 1947, in Beckley, WV, the daughter of the late George and Muriel Coutlee Hodel.
Surviving is her husband, Richard S. Andrews of Leland, NC; son, Christopher M. Minter of Raleigh, NC; daughter, Amanda M. Pistner of Washington, PA; and five grandchildren, Hayden Minter, Audrey Minter, Jackson Pistner, Caroline Pistner and Mary Kate Pistner.
Married on February 2, 1993, she and Scott lived in St. Louis, MO until retiring to Leland, NC in 2007. Karen attended college at West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV and Emery College in Atlanta, GA while majoring in Interior Decorating. During her first marriage, she lived in Lexington, KY where she developed a love of college basketball and more specifically became a Kentucky Wildcat basketball fan. She was a friend of Bill W, and she would encourage her St. Louis friends to find a meeting.
She was an Episcopalian and helped run the St. Louis Flower Festival in the late 1980's at the St. Louis Cathedral. Karen was also an avid reader enjoying Janet Evanovich, James Patterson (Alex Cross) and John Sandford.
The memorial service will be held at St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Beckley, WV on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at 1:00 pm followed by an interment and small reception.
The family requests no flowers but would appreciate donations in Karen's memory be made to Lupus Foundation or Alzheimer's Association.
