Karen "Kare" L. Engle, 71, of The Villages, FL, passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2019. Kare was born on March 26, 1948 in Kalamazoo, MI to her parents, Kenneth and Elaine Dorothy (Cappy) Engle. When she was older, and received her Master's Degree, she became a counselor for Clarkston Middle School.
Kare's passion for learning and life started early as an award-winning athlete attending Kalamazoo College on a scholarship where she played on her golf and tennis teams. She received the Kalamazoo College Hall of Fame Award as a 1969 MIAA Champion.
Kare pursued her counseling career with predoctoral education and received certification as an Education Specialist from Wayne State University. She became a vital member of the education team at Clarkson Middle School, helping students by promoting academic achievement, personal/social development, and career advancement.
Kare was very involved in her community, always extending a helping hand, support, and neighborly love. She was an avid horseback rider at the Marion Therapeutic Riding Association in Ocala, Fl. Karen was well known and admired as an active golfer, tennis player, bridge partner, and top winner in her football pools.
She will be greatly missed by family, friends, and the community.
Kare is survived by her wife, Dr. Elaine Cohen; her brother, Kenneth Engle and wife Susan; and pups, Winston and Channing.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
A Celebration of Life is to be held on Friday, December 27,2019 at Water Oaks Satellite Club House (814 East Norman Avenue, Lady Lake, Fl. 32159) starting at 12 noon.
