Mrs. June Marie Kitchens Sims, 87, of Spalding County, GA, passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2025, after an extended illness. Mrs. Sims was born Wednesday, October 27, 1937, to the late Jimmie M. Kitchens and Jennie Sue Waits Kitchens.
Survivors include her children; daughter and son-in-law, Valerie and John S. Fields of McDonough; son, Charles Samuel Sims, Jr., of Spalding County; beloved granddaughter, Ellis Fields of Baltimore, MD; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Angelyn and Frank C. Hearn of Jackson; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Joseph and Anne Sims of Florida. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Mrs. Sims was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Charles S. Sims, Sr. and special friend, Joe Harris.
She was a proud graduate of Jackson High School, class of 1955. As a young college student, she began her career at The State Bank, now known as First National Bank of Griffin. Her role as assistant to FNB president and CEO, C.A. (Lon) Knowles, as well as growth and development of the bank brought her much joy and fulfillment. She once stated, "From being on time, dressing properly, and being courteous to maintaining warm, open employee/customer relationships, I want to set the standard." She loved her FNB family and retired as Assistant Vice President in 2002 after 43 years of service.
Another "job" that she took very seriously was her leadership as president of the Jackson High School class of 1955. With the help of beloved classmates, countless hours of communication, planning and coordination went into the many class reunions over the years. In 2015, with their numbers fading, the class decided to end the big reunions and meet for lunch in Jackson once a month. Sadly, that practice has ceased as well. Time marches on. (Go Red Devils!)
June was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Griffin. She was also a member of the Business and Professional Women's Club as well as the Women's Chamber of Commerce.
She was a voracious reader and loved to travel. She was prolific at correspondence. She wanted you to know you were special and important. She wanted to celebrate your successes and lift you up in your moments of sadness. She wanted you to know that she was thinking about you. She was affectionately known as "Bug" to those closest to her, especially her beloved granddaughter, Ellis. She was a loving and supportive Mom, wife, grandmother, friend, daughter and Bug. She will be greatly missed.
