Ethel June Hancock Kirkland was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on June 4th, 1927. She graduated from C. E. Byrd High School, June worked for Commercial National Bank in Shreveport for 43 years. Starting her career in the Analysis Department at age 18, she retired as head of her department 43 year later. She was a diligent and hard worker and gained many accolades.
June was a member of the PEO Organization and served as an officer in many positions. Dedicating her life to serving her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, she was a founding member of Church of the Holy Cross in Shreveport and served her church faithfully, never wanting recognition and always taking a job joyfully, no matter what it was. She was the last living member of the original 128 people who signed the petition to start The Holy Cross Episcopal Church. She had a beautiful soprano voice and sang in the choir for over 70 years.
The only thing she did not like to do was cook!
June was preceded in death by her father Earl Thomas Hancock, her mother Mildred O'Neal Hancock, her husband Daniel L. Kirkland and three brothers, Ellis H. Hancock, Charles R. Hancock and Harold E. Hancock, her sister-in-laws Mrs. Charles (Dorothy) Hancock, Mrs. Mary McDuff and one nephew, Timothy W. Hancock. June is survived by her niece, Candace Hancock Broyles and husband Allen of McKinney, Texas and nephews J. David Hancock and wife Bobi of Okla. City, Okla. Steven T. Hancock and wife Kathy of Hallsville, TX and Paul D, Hancock and wife Lorraine of Friendswood, TX.
12 great nieces and nephews and 6 great great nieces and nephews. June will be remembered for her gifts of service, her loving heart and for her deep dedication to always putting others first and helping others no matter what their need was.
Pall bearers will be Paul Hancock, Matthew Hancock, Josh Hancock, Matthew Broyles, Mark Broyles and Charles Alford
In lieu of flowers she asked that contributions be made to Louisiana Association for the Blind, Holy Angels in Shreveport, LA or The Gideons International.
