Julie (Duncan) Pooley, 55, of Sterling, Virginia, passed away peacefully at her home on January 23, 2021. Julie was born in Oahu, Hawaii on March 12, 1965 to Thomas and Frances Duncan. Growing up in a Navy family, Julie lived in many places but considered St Mary's County, Maryland where she attended high school to be her childhood home. Julie graduated from James Madison University in 1987 with a bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems and later went on to earn a master's degree in Information and Telecommunication Systems for Business from Johns Hopkins University's Carey Business School in 1996. For many years, Julie worked as a government contractor IT professional before becoming an independent consultant in 2014 and specializing in IT proposal writing. It was at James Madison where Julie met her future husband, Jack. They were married in May of 1992 and lived in Arlington Virginia for many years before moving to Sterling, Virginia in 1998 to raise their family. In 1999 and 2001, respectively, Julie and Jack welcomed their daughter Kyra and son Jack (JD). Julie was a warm, fun-loving and happy person. Family was the center and light of Julie's life. She was a loving mother to her daughter Kyra and son JD, her greatest joys, and devoted wife to her husband and love of her life, Jack. Julie loved to travel, especially to the beach in the summer and to warm tropical islands in the winter. She was a master of planning vacations for her family and always had a fun trip in the works. She loved live music and dancing in the crowd, especially to her husband Jack's band, the Meat Bees. She loved dogs, gardening, yoga, the river and crunchy stuff in her ice cream. Julie opened her home and heart to all. She loved Sunday Fundays at their barn and the Pooley home was the center for many gatherings. She will be loved and missed by so many. Julie is survived by her husband Jack, her children Kyra and Jack (JD), her parents Thomas and Frances Duncan, her siblings Sandy (and Malcolm) Hodge, Nancy (and Paul) Mamros, and David (and Mary Lynne) Duncan, her in-laws, and many nephews, nieces and cousins whom she also loved dearly. A private service will be held for immediate family. A celebration to honor Julie's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Friends of Homeless Animals (foha.org) or Boulder Crest Foundation (bouldercrest.org).
