Julia Esther Keeney, of Kyle Texas, passed away on February 28, 2021. She was born June 18, 1943 in La Paz, Bolivia, to Vicente and Esther Ormachea.
Julia grew up in La Paz, Bolivia, and graduated from Colegio Aleman Mariscal Braun in 1961. She moved to Chicago, Illinois with her family in 1963 where she worked for the Maryknoll Brothers Catholic Missionary Service and later for Bell and Howell. There she met her future husband, Robert "Bob" Keeney.
Julia and Bob married in March 1970 and live briefly in many states eventually settling in Brownsville, Texas. Julia adored south Texas, the beaches, the tropical gardens and wildlife, the close friendships, her employment at UT-Brownsville and being able to speak her native language once again. She was a devout Catholic and member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Our Lady of Good Counsel in Brownsville. Her love, kindness and generous heart will be treasured by her family and friends. Julia enjoyed being a devoted housewife and mother and was also a wonderful grandmother when they moved to Kyle together. We miss her deeply, but we know she has finally been able to find peace and rest with our good Lord.
Julia is survived by her daughter Kathleen Keeney Murray (Philip), her grandson Jack Murray, her sister Lucia Salmi, her nephews and nieces Reino Salmi (Janet), Lauren Salmi (Alex Wilson), Sheryl Salmi (Joe Hunt), her step-children Carol Humphreys (Robert), Marilyn Goddin (John), David Keeney, Jane Dark (Phillip) and Mark Keeney, as well as many cousins all over the U.S., Bolivia, Puerto Rico and Canada.
