Judy Kay Wright, 78, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Dyer, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, went to be with the Lord on March 28, 2024. She was born in Tyler, Texas on July 25, 1945, at Mother Frances Hospital.
Judy grew up in Quitman, Texas, and graduated as Valedictorian from Quitman High School in 1963. After high school, she attended East Texas State University, graduating in 1966. In addition, she received a master's degree from North Texas State University in 1968.
On August 28, 1965, Judy married James "Jim" L. Wright and had two children, Greg and Julie. They raised their children in loving homes in Corpus Christi, Houston, and Tyler.
Judy was an avid golfer and Texas Aggie fan. She loved to organize and play mah-jongg and 42 with numerous friends. She spent some of her happiest times at their second home in Holly Lake Ranch.
Judy was an active member of Green Acres Baptist Church for 42 years. She faithfully served as a teacher and in numerous leadership positions.
We give special thanks to the doctors and nurses who cared for her at Mother Frances Hospital and Hospice of East Texas.
Judy will be remembered first and foremost as a woman with an enormous heart. She was a "people" person, always concerned about the needs of others. She was devoted to her family and friends in every respect. She loved her grandchildren unconditionally. Judy was a treasure that blessed everyone beyond measure.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Kathleen Dyer. She is survived by her husband, James Lynn Wright; sister, Carolyn Lankford of El Paso; son, Gregory Lynn Wright of San Antonio (wife Valerie); daughter, Julie Wright Simpson (husband Toby) of Whitehouse; and her seven grandchildren who affectionately called her "Grandy", Jack Wright (New York), Emery Wright (New York), Miles Wright and Elizabeth Wright (San Antonio), Emma Simpson, Ella Simpson, and Elle Simpson (Whitehouse).
Memorial Services for Judy Kay Wright will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Stewart Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kevin Burdette, officiating. Her grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers. A private burial service will be held prior to the service.
