Judy K. Keimig, 74, of Estelline, passed away Monday, December 14, 2020, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls from complications of Covid-19. Private family funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, December 19, 2020, and will be livestreamed through the Geise Funeral Home Facebook page. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Friday at Geise Funeral Home in Estelline. Masks are required to be worn when attending the services.
Judy Kaye Keimig was born the fifth of seven children to Stanley Papka and Mamie (Olson) Papka, in Brookings, SD. She graduated from Estelline High School in 1964. Beginning in the 8th grade, she worked as a waitress at Smitty's Caf?. Following graduation, she was employed at ITC (Deuel Telephone) in Clear Lake. She then worked at the Brookings Hospital as the secretary to the Administrator. In 1967, she was married to Jerome 'Jerry' Keimig. They adopted their daughter, Jill Marie, in 1972. Judy was employed at the Brookings School District Business Office. Their second child, Jonn Dennis, was born in 1977. Over the years, the family lived across the United States living in Naperville, IL, Hutchinson, MN and Rochester, NY, where Judy held various secretarial and accounting positions. In 1996 Judy moved home to South Dakota, relocating to Watertown and working at Benchmark Foam. In 2005, she bought her home in Estelline. From 1996 until she retired in 2014, she commuted to her job at Avera Brookings Medical Clinic. In 2019, Judy moved to Park Place assisted living in Brookings.
She was active in the local Birthday Club, held office in WELCA and the church council at Trinity Lutheran Church in Estelline and was active in a craft club while living in Rochester (Webster) NY.
She is survived by her children, Jill (Scott) Coene of Rochester, NY and Jonn Keimig of West St. Paul, MN; the light of her life, her only grandchild, Vivianne Kaye 'Vivi' Coene of Rochester, NY; three sisters, Darlene 'Dotty' Colberg, Janice (Dale) Sonnenburg, and Cindy Rust and one brother, Dennis Papka (Connie Glines) all of Estelline, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Merlin 'Bud' and his wife Mary; sister, Karen Mohan; three brothers-in-law, Wally Colberg, Dean Mohan and Roland Rust; many aunts and uncles including her godparents, Ray and Elsie Moeller and Roy and Doris Olson.
