Judy Marion DeWees, 89, of Tyler, passed away on August 4, 2025 after a long and fulfilling life.
Judy was born on March 8, 1936 in Abilene, Texas to Alberta Fryar Phillips and Sam Tom Moberley. She had a sister, Becky Sam Moberley Dixon, wife of W. C. Dixon. Judy was predeceased by her sister, brother in law and parents. She is survived by her daughter and son in law Debbi and Charles Hill of Tyler, son and daughter in law Steve and Tina DeWees of McKinney, and son Brad DeWees of Tyler. Additionally, she is survived by granddaughter and husband, Regan and Paul Mort, grandson, Tucker Cappella, and granddaughters Jaime DeWees and Samantha DeWees. Judy is also survived by great grandchildren Reed Mort, Charlie Kate Mort and Adam McGill.
In 2001, Judy retired from over 40 years as a paralegal most notably for Burnett and Ahders and then later with the Law Offices of Ruff Ahders in Odessa, Texas. Following retirement, she relocated to north central Texas and then east Texas and spent even more time with her family. She traveled as often as possible throughout her life, was a member of the National Ski Patrol, an avid bridge player, a lifelong singer and music lover, a strong supporter and Board member of the Salvation Army and the best cheerleader ever for her grandkids. Judy was a lifelong Presbyterian - over 60 years at First Presbyterian Church in Odessa, but eventually transferred her membership to First Presbyterian Church in Tyler.
Judy was a beloved mother, daughter, sister and friend. She had a generous spirit and a wonderful sense of humor. She was kind and loving and she exuded goodness. She will be remembered for all the love and sweet, kind, wisdom she shared with family and friends. She truly loved her people. She carried herself with dignity, strength and grace from this life into the next and she will be missed dearly.
Services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church Chapel in Tyler, Texas on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. with a reception following at the church.
The family would like to thank Hospice of East Texas for their gracious support. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of East Texas or to First Presbyterian Church in Tyler, Texas in honor of Judy.
