Judith A. "Judy" Brimer
Help us celebrate Judith! Please share your stories and photos, and invite others who remember Judith.
Judith A. "Judy" Brimer, age 75, of Wallingford, PA, formerly of New Castle, DE, passed away into the arms or our Lord, on Wednesday, January 13, 2021, surrounded by the loving and devoted healthcare angels at Riddle Hospital. Her family is saddened that COVID-19 took her from this earth, but rejoice in knowing that she is joyfully reunited with her beloved husband, Roy, and son, Kenny, in heaven.
Born on April 27, 1945, in Philadelphia, PA, she was the oldest daughter of the late Edmund F. Finley and Esther L. (Kelley) Finley.
Judy was a graduate of the Padua Academy class of 1963. She studied education for a year at the University of Delaware to fulfill her dream of becoming a teacher. Judy and Roy were devoted and selfless parents to three children. Kenny, their son, was born with many challenges and his disabilities became the focus of Judy's efforts and energies. She was a loving and proactive advocate for her son's life. Judy ensured that Kenny's life was filled with possibilities and she helped others "see" his abilities. She took great pride in being a PTA officer at John G. Leach School, where her son attended until he turned 21. Judy worked with others to start a non-profit post-21 transition program, C.E.R.T.S., Inc. (Collaborative Effort to Reinforce Transition Success). She also served on medical transition committees for Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children and Christiana Care, which forever changed the way disability services were designed and delivered in Delaware. After the death of her son, Judy volunteered at Seasons Hospice. She was a quintessential caregiver, and was active in providing numerous opportunities for people with disabilities and their families in an effort to maximize their quality of life.
Judy loved her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and every child she met. She was always happy to celebrate, no matter the occasion. Judy would dress up as a bunny on Easter and Mrs. Claus on Christmas. She loved to garden, and her desire to dig in the earth and enjoy the beauty of nature fueled that passion. Judy stopped to collect beautiful leaves in the fall, shells on the beach, and rocks. She would collect coins with her grandchildren's birth years, place them in glass jars, wrap them with a bow and attach a loving message. Judy was always thinking of others, and writing to others was a treasured hobby.
Her moral foundation was based on her strong Catholic faith. Judy was a proud Eucharistic minister at Our Lady of Fatima, her parish for over 60 years. She acted out her faith daily, and it is her faith, which she has instilled into her loved ones, that carries us through life.
Judy's beloved best friend and husband of 45 years, Roy W. Brimer, died in 2015. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her son, Kenneth P. "Kenny" Brimer, and her dearest sister, Denise F. Johnson. Judy is survived by her children, Karen M. Hirt (Kevin) of Springfield, PA and Christine M. DiGiovanni (Donald Jr.) of Wilmington; her adored grandchildren, Jack Hirt, Amanda Hirt, Donald DiGiovanni III and Patrick DiGiovanni; brothers, Edmund F. Finley Jr. (Joan) and Robert F. Finley (Susan); sisters, Therese Mucha (Robert) and Lonie Sculley (Geoff); and brother-in-law, David Brimer (Wayne Haymaker). She leaves many fond memories with her nieces and nephews and their families, Joie Finley, Mike Finley, Eric Mucha, Megan Weisgerber, Brenton Sculley, Heather Finley, and grand nieces and nephews, Mike and Kelley Finley, Flynn Mucha, CJ and Charlie Weisgerber, Aubree, Remy and Cash Sculley, and Dylan and Lily Finley. Judy also leaves behind so much love for her best friends who were her family, Bruce and Christine Richardson, Tim and Mary Louise McMahon, Jack Jadach, and Terri Hancharick.
Her daughters would like to whole heartedly thank those who were influential in Judy's life. They are grateful for the McCallmont Road neighbors, Our Lady of Fatima Parish, the John G. Leach School family, and her friends at Plush Mills.
A Memorial Mass and Celebration of Life "Judy-style" will take place when we can hug and kiss safely. Information will be forthcoming.
In lieu of flowers, please pay it forward and go out of your way to help a stranger, find the beauty in all things, and always live with love in your hearts.
