Ms. Juanita Marie Willis 83, was called home to Glory in the early morning of February 10, 2021. Juanita was born on May16, 1937 to the late Mr. Ozzie Willis and Mrs. Mattie Sue Willis. She was the youngest of ten children, all of whom preceded her in death.
She attended public school in Athens, Georgia. After graduating high school, she pursued a career in nursing. Between 1956-1959 after which she became a registered nurse and worked at St. Mary's Hospital.
Juanita decided to further her career as a nurse by entering the United States Air Force as a 2LT. She continued her education while serving and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Loretto Heights College in 1981. She served her country proudly for 20 years and retired as a Major.
After retiring in the late 80's, she returned to her hometown to care for her mother and worked in the family funeral home business. She earned an Associate of Science degree in Funeral Service from Gupton Jones College of Funeral Services in 1990. She became licensed in funeral service and worked alongside her late brother, Alfonso Willis. She was an active member of the 7th District Georgia Funeral Services Practitioners Association until her health declined. She was recognized as the 7th District Mortician of the Year in 2007. She was also an active member of the VFW Post 3910, the Golden Nuggets, and the Newtown Community Club.
Juanita was preceded in death by her special love of 30 years, Sam Favors until God called him home in 2019. She is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Visitation will be held February 16, 2021 from 12 pm to 7pm, Willis Chapel, Mack & Payne.
Graveside service will be held February 17, 2021 at 11 am, Evergreen Memorial Park. Athens GA. Pastor Travis T. Richardson , Eulogist.
