Juanita (Nita) Louise Hill Nason was born to Melvin A. Hill and Mary Gray Hill on November 22, 1939. She departed this life on March 8, 2022. Her father, mother, a sister, Ethel, and five brothers, Calvin, Melvin, Richard, Carl, and Marvin preceded her in death.
Juanita received her formal education in the Rush Memorial and Seventh Day Adventist Schools. Following in her older sibling's footsteps, she became a mighty Bulldog at Booker T. Washington High School in Atlanta. At Booker T, she left her footprints in the sands of time when she competed in track meets with legendary Olympian Wilma Rudolph.
As a fast runner and a forward thinker, Juanita parlayed those skills to earn a Track Scholarship to Tuskegee Institute in Alabama. Not only did she excel in her classwork, but she also juggled an active campus life with her involvement with the drama club and the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Tuskegee is where she met the love of her life, Jesse N. Nason. Perhaps he motivated her to run faster because she completed her four-year program in three years, and they married in 1961. To this union, two sons, Kevin and Keith were born. After teaching in the Atlanta Public Schools, she became a student again and completed her Master of Arts degree at Atlanta University. In the years that followed, this Georgia girl traveled the world and followed her military husband to Texas, Pennsylvania, California, Germany, and Virginia.
Juanita was a life-long learner who never lost sight of her goals. Upon arriving in Germany in 1974, she returned to the classroom on Boston University's satellite campus in pursuit of her doctorate in Education. After holding several other Civilian Personnel jobs with the Government, she ended her work-life career retiring as a Classification Specialist with the Federal Government in D.C.
She and Jesse raised their sons to become handsome, intelligent, and compassionate young men who gave them four beautiful grandchildren who were Nita and Jesse's pride and joy.
Juanita will live on in the lives of those who loved her, especially her devoted sister Laura, who was by her side daily during her declining health. In addition to Laura, she is survived by her sisters, Savannah Hill and Linda Hill Vaughn of Greensboro, NC and her brother Gregory Hill of Houston, Texas; her two sons, Kevin (Jenifer) Nason of Dallas, Texas, Keith (Vanessa) Nason of San Antonio Texas, her grandchildren, Bronson, Paris, Kristin, and Taylor, and one great-grandson, Isaiah. Many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends will also have memories to cherish.
Juanita's final request was for her remains to be interred with her husband Jesse at Fort Sam Houston, in San Antonio, Texas.
