Juan Nanez Velez Sr., 91, of San Angelo passed away on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at his home, surrounded by loved ones. He was born to the late Ventura and Maria Velez on Sunday, October 20, 1929 in New Braunfels, Texas. He married the love of his life, Lionor Martinez on September 21, 1947, they were blissfully married for 68 years.
Juan was drafted into the United States Air Force on February 7, 1953. He served his full term and was honorably discharged from 666 AC+W Squadron Mill Valley, Air Force Station in California. Juan began his career with B&W Manufacturing as a laborer and worked his way up to finishing department foreman, summing up to 30+ years with the company.
Juan enjoyed traveling extensively and took a yearly family vacation all over the United States. He had a love for deer hunting, watching his favorite baseball team, the Atlanta Braves and his other favorite past time was watching Western Cowboy movies.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lionor; his sons, Juan M. Velez, Jr. and Ventura B. Velez II; his brother, Marcos Velez; brother, Rodolpho Velez and sister, Eva Jones both of California. Survivors include Elva Sanchez (Adam), Elsa Martinez (Ruben) of San Antonio, George Velez (Sandra) of Hurst, Elesa Larez (Steve) of Round Rock and Ercilia Luna (Juan), 20 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Ninfa Navarro (Hector), Betty Gonzales (Gonzalo) both from California, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives.
Visitation will start at 6 PM, Sunday, October 10, 2021 with the Prayer Service to begin at 7 PM. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Monday, October 11, 2021 in the Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel with the interment to follow in Johnson's Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Masks are optional. Due to the COVID Pandemic, there will be no reception following the interment.
