Joyce Trautt Hovey, 87, a longtime resident of Stockbridge, MA died July 20, 2022 at Kimball Farms in Lenox.
Born in Drexel Hill, PA on March 6, 1935 she was the daughter of George R. and Elsie Banner Trautt. She grew up in Pennsylvania and graduated from West Chester University, West Chester, PA in 1957 with a BS in Education.
A teacher for the Berkshire Hills Regional School District from 1970 until 1994, Joyce taught at the Village School, Plain School and Housatonic School before moving to Berkshire Country Day School from 1996 until 2001.
Following her retirement in 2001 she did tutoring and volunteering.
She was an active member of the First Congregational Church in Stockbridge since 1964 serving as a member on different boards and was at one time clerk of the church. Mrs. Hovey also served on the board of the Laurel Hill Association and the Stockbridge Library.
Joyce is survived by her son, Leland W. Hovey, III of Syracuse, NY, her grandson Leland Goodhue of Salem, MA and her grandson Nathaniel Goodhue currently in the Marine Corps stationed in 29 Palms, CA.
Her husband, Leland Webb Hovey, Jr. whom she married on March 15, 1958 in Pennsylvania died in 1995. She was also predeceased by her daughter Sherrie Hovey Goodhue on June 28, 2008.
SERVICES - A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at 1:00 PM at the First Congregational Church in Stockbridge, conducted by Rev. Brent Damrow, pastor. In consideration of all those attending, masking is strongly encouraged. A reception will follow at the church.
