Joyce Harumi Masuda of Honolulu, Hawaii, passed away on Easter Sunday, April 4, 2021, at the age of 93. to join her beloved husband, Henry Hiroshi Masuda, President of Continental Oil Far East. Joyce was a wonderful partner to Hank throughout his professional life in New York, Tokyo and Hong Kong. Both Joyce and Henry were fortunate to be close friends with the Ono family of Bank of Tokyo and their network of friends in Tokyo and New York presented many opportunities in their life. Joyce, at that time, was the dutiful partner to her husband's business needs.
Upon retiring in Honolulu, Joyce shared her passion for fabrics and people through her ownership of the 100-year-old Musashiya Inc., a fabric store known for creating the original "Aloha Shirt", last located at Ala Moana Shopping Center, bought from the Fujii family of Fujii Shoten, where ironically, our parents roles reversed when Henry became the partner for her successful business journey.
She moved to One Kalakaua Senior Living to remain close to her in-city friends. Joyce discovered another circle of friends and ohana of happiness at One K with whom she enjoyed much laughter, good times, good feelings, family sharing and generosity of spirits.
