Our community sadly lost a pillar on Thursday, March 31, 2022. Joyce Faborn (J.F.) Holt, also affectionately known as "Mr. Holt" was born on February 18, 1928 in Flat, Texas to Bernard Pierce Holt and Elsie Brazzil Holt. He passed away peacefully with family by his side. After graduation from Flat Hight School, he served in United States Air Corps and was stationed in Japan from 1946-1949. Upon his return, he attended Southwest Texas State University where he met the love of his life Carolyn Rae McCown. They were married in 1953 and raised three children. J.F. eventually found his calling in the field of education. He was employed as a teacher, principal and superintendent. He was a teacher in Edna, TX and high school principal in Dripping Springs, TX. He and Carolyn then moved their family to Trinity, TX where he worked as the junior high and high school principal. He later became the Trinity ISD superintendent of schools where he proudly served for 28 years. He forged strong relationships with so many students throughout the years. As superintendent, he facilitated the building of the current Trinity High School. After retirement, he enjoyed golfing, sailing, hunting, photography and traveling. Above all else, he cherished time with his family. He was preceded in death by his father, mother and sister Joann Holt Gray. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of nearly 69 years, Carolyn, their two sons, Kirk Holt and wife Janet, Kelly Holt and wife Tamara, and their daughter Kim Holt Hetherington and husband Ken. He was called Papaw by 7 grandchildren, Christi Holt Fewin and husband Daniel, Grant Hetherington, Carter Holt and wife Paige, Jordan Holt, Griffin Hetherington, Jessica Holt, and Graham Hetherington. In addition, he enjoyed three great grandchildren, Abby Rayann, Carsyn Rylie, Ryder Rane along with nieces and nephews Kathleen, Jeff, Janet, and Johnny. Mr. Holt will especially be remembered for his kind heart, his amiable disposition, his positive attitude in the face of adversity, his commitment to students, his devotion to wife and family, and his love of golf and the Astros! Funeral service was on Tuesday, April 5th at the First United Methodist Church in Trinity, TX. Interment followed at Cedar Grove Cemetery.
