Joyce Rose (Wooten) Holbrook gently passed away August 21st, 2023 at the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Hospice Center in Wilmington, NC. She will be peacefully laid to rest during a private family graveside service at the Lafayette Memorial Park & Mausoleum in Fayetteville, NC.
Joyce, one of eight brothers and sisters, was born just outside of Newton Grove, NC on January 7, 1933. Her parents Marvin and Nellie Wooten were active farmers in Sampson County. The entire family contributed and worked very hard to sustain their agricultural way of life. Joyce attended Westbrook High School and as she followed in her elder sister Nell's footsteps, Joyce enrolled in the Highsmith Hospital School of Nursing in Fayetteville, NC; graduating in 1955.
During her nursing studies, she met her future husband, Robert Everett Holbrook, who was active duty in the US Army. Once they were married, the world opened up for Joyce; offering both extensive traveling and new experiences.
Joyce dearly loved her family, friends, and neighbors; she was always there with a smile and heartfelt support. She thoroughly enjoyed her participation in the Fayetteville Garden Club, and was also an active and very passionate member of Snyder Memorial Baptist Church; both located in Fayetteville, NC. Joyce also loved attending the annual Wooten Family Reunions at her childhood home sanctuary, Shady Grove Baptist Church, at Spivey's Corner, NC.
Bob and Joyce are survived by her elder sister Nell, their 3 children and spouses; son Gary Holbrook, son Steven Holbrook and his wife Savannah, daughter Peggy (Holbrook) Roberts and her husband Kemp, 6 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.
The family truly wishes to extend thanks to all for your support, thoughts, and prayers. We all rejoice in celebrating the devoted Christian life of this loving Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mother, Aunt, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Healthcare Provider, and Dear Friend.
