Joyce Cleveland Dimmick, of Forestdale, MA, formerly of Harrisburg, passed away on January 19, 2021 in Barnstable MA.
Joyce was the daughter of W. Lee and Ruth A. (Burgan) Cleveland of Troy, PA. A graduate of Troy High School, she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from Keuka College, Keuka Park, NY. Joyce taught at the Polyclinic Hospital School of Nursing in Harrisburg, and later was a school nurse at the Lansdowne Area School District, Lansdowne, PA, Valley Forge Junior High School, Paoli, PA, and Mansfield Area School District, Mansfield, PA. She retired from Susquehanna Township School District after teaching first grade for 22 years.
Joyce was a long-time member of Faith Presbyterian Church, Colonial Road, Harrisburg, where she was an Elder, Sunday School Teacher, and Church School Superintendent. At the time of her passing, she was a member of State College Presbyterian Church. A 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, she was a Past Worthy Matron of Astro Chapter No. 380. Joyce was also a Past Royal Matron of Willard-Waterman Court No. 54 Order of the Amaranth, a member of Ozemb Temple No. 52, Bethany Shrine No. 7, Zembo Shrine Zee Legionettes, Social Order of the Beauceant (SOOB), and was a Past President of Pilgrim Commandery Auxiliary No. 11. She served as a Past Mother Advisor of Harrisburg Assembly International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, was a former Past Grand Deputy for District No. 22, and received their Grand Cross of Color. Joyce was also a member of the Dauphin County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees and the Ridgeview Garden Club.
Joyce is survived by her two children: Bruce C. Dimmick and his wife Pamela, of Forestdale, MA, and Susan D. Shaffer and her husband Chad, of State College, PA. She is also survived by three granddaughters: Abigail and Allison Dimmick, of Forestdale, MA, and Alexandra Shaffer, of State College, PA. In addition to her parents and brother, Lee R. Cleveland, she was preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years, Bruce B. Dimmick.
An Order of the Eastern Star Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday February 5, 2021 in the Jesse H. Geigle Funeral Home, Inc., 2100 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, followed by her Funeral Service with Rev. Dr. Keith A. Blank, officiating. Interment in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Shiners Hospital for Children or a charity of your choice.
