Joyce Dempsey left us on May 29 at her home in Highland Springs, Dallas, with her family at her bedside. She was preceded in death by her parents, Steve and Aleen Huffstutler, and sisters JoAnn Badeau and Jeanne Emerson. She is survived by her husband Gordon Dempsey, children and in-laws Alan and Anita Dempsey, Brian Dempsey, Diane and Julio Pitalue, and grandchildren Monica Dempsey, Michael Dempsey, Pilar Pitalue and Isabel Pitalue.
Joyce was born October 23, 1928 in Guthrie, Oklahoma. After graduating from Guthrie High School she received an Associate of Arts Degree from Stephens College, Columbia, Mo. and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Oklahoma.
After graduation in 1950, she moved to Dallas to work for Braniff International Airways for four years. In Dallas she met Gordon on a blind date July 20, 1953, and they were married January 16, 1954, in Highland Park Methodist Church. Later, she worked for the Texas Department of Human Resources for 12 years. She was a member of Chapter DO, P.E.O., Gamma Phi Beta Social Sorority and was an active member of the Church of the Transfiguration, working for several years and serving a term as President of the Church's clothing resale shop, the Clothes Horse.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Episcopal Church of The Transfiguration, 14115 Hillcrest Rd, Dallas 75240, in the near future.
In lieu of flowers Joyce requested that Memorial Gifts be given to the P.E.O. Foundation Fund (Jane Wells, 6301 Misty Trail, Dallas, 75248), the P.E.O. Star Oaks Fund or the Church of the Transfiguration.
