Joyce Galloway Curtis, 79, of Woodstock, GA, formerly of Hayesville, North Carolina passed away Monday, November 29, 2021. She was born November 24, 1942 in Knoxville, TN.
Joyce spent some of her childhood in Canton, OH, where she held many fond memories for the rest of her life. She attended Hayesville High School and met her future husband, Farrell Curtis, there. Joyce and Farrell lived in Doraville, Acworth, and eventually settled in Woodstock, GA in 1979. Joyce worked for the IRS as a tax examiner. After her retirement, Joyce found great joy in taking care of her three grandchildren. She was incredibly artistically talented and enjoyed macrame, crochet, ceramics, drawing, and painting. She was an avid gardener, spending summers canning and freezing the vegetables she grew. Joyce was a member of Bells Ferry Church of God and more recently attended Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
She was the daughter of the late Wade Chastain and Cora Eller Galloway and wife of the late Farrell Maurice Curtis who died July 5, 2020. She was also preceded in death by a son, Darryl Lynn Curtis.
Surviving are her two daughters Deborah Curtis Terry and husband, Richard, of Canton, GA, and Pamela Curtis Woodward and husband, Andrew, of Woodstock, GA; sister Brenda Galloway Franklin of Hayesville, NC; three grandchildren Ashley Marie (Woodward) Groom and husband, Andrew, of Canton, GA, Macy Kaitlyn Terry of Canton, GA, and Wesley Curtis Terry of Canton, GA; great-granddaughter Nora Jane Groom of Canton, GA; niece Celena (Waldroup) Bailey and husband, Jim, of Ellenton, FL; nephew Jason Waldroup and wife, Sonya, of Hayesville, NC.; and several other nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 2PM, Sunday, December 5, 2021 in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville with the Rev. Fred Delili officiating. Interment will be in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Wesley Terry, Andrew Woodard, Richard Terry, Andrew Groom, Jason Waldroup and Jim Eller.
The family will receive friends from 1-1:45PM Sunday, December 5, 2021 at Ivie Funeral Home Hayesville prior to the services.
The family request that those who attend wear a mask while inside.
