It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of Joyce Compton
Harrington, who went to be with her Lord at the age of 97 on January 29, 2024, in Fairhope,
Alabama.
Born on December 9, 1926, in Putnam, Alabama, Joyce received a Bachelor of Science in
Bacteriology from University of Alabama and remained an avid Crimson Tide fan. She lived in
New Orleans, Louisiana, where she was schoolteacher, a Saints football fan, and a cherished
member of First Baptist Church of New Orleans. Her life was a testimony of God's power of
grace, love, and steadfastness, leaving a legacy of faith with all those knew her.
She is survived by her adoring daughters, Rhonda Kelley and her husband, Charles S. Kelley, Jr.,
and Mitzi Woodson and her husband, Stephen Woodson; sister, Rosmund Compton;
grandchildren, Charles David Ramsey, Jr., his wife Erin and children Ella, Charlie and Leighton,
Michael Dent Ramsey, his wife Samantha and children Alice and Jack, Aaron Robert Ramsey,
his wife Catherine and children Mia, Margot and Ada, and Brent Allan Ramsey.
She is preceded in death by her infant son Robert Grey Harrington, parents, A. W. and LuPearl
Compton, Sr., brother A. W. "Buck" Compton, Jr., and sister Barbara Ann Pritchett.
Funeral services were held at Nanafalia Baptist Church in Nanafalia, Alabama, on February 3,
2024. She was buried alongside family at Nanafalia Baptist Cemetery.
A shining light and a source of unwavering faith, Joyce's legacy will be carried on through her
family and friends, and the countless lives she impacted. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be
made in Joyce's memory to New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, Attn: IA, 3939 Gentilly
