Joy Catherine Evilsizor, age 79, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2024, in Kennesaw, Georgia, following an ischemic stroke suffered on August 31. Born on April 4, 1945, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Joy lived a vibrant and fulfilling life, dedicating her years to family, community, and the love of animals.
Joy is survived by her devoted husband, Gail O. Evilsizor, with whom she shared 35 wonderful years of marriage, having tied the knot in Cincinnati, Ohio. Together, they raised a loving family, which includes her children Doug Grant (Marie Faulkner), Jeff Grant (Annette Grant), Scott Grant (Dawn Parks), and Wendy Hill (Michael Hill). Joy was also a proud grandmother to Reilly N. Grant, Sophie Hill, and Turner Hill, who brought immense joy to her life.
Joy's passion for animals was evident in her extensive career as the Executive Director of the Humane Society of Cobb County, where she served for 21 years after volunteering for 7 years. Her commitment to animal welfare also led her to serve as Chairman of the Board for Cobb County Animal Control for 7 years. Her legacy of compassion continues to inspire those she worked with and the countless animals she helped rescue throughout her life.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Joy was a beloved sister to Melba Lou Kiger and a caring companion to her dog Ginger and cat Blackey.
Joy resided in Marietta, Georgia, for 34 years, where she made a lasting impact on her community. Her hobbies included rescuing animals and advocating for their welfare, reflecting her deep love for all creatures.
A funeral service will be held at Georgia Funeral Care on October 10, 2024, with a viewing at 12:00 PM followed by a service at 2:00 PM. Joy will be interred at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA, on November 7, 2024, at 1:30 PM. The service will be officiated by Roy Lantz.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Humane Society of Cobb County, located at 148 Fairground Street, Marietta, GA 30060, to honor Joy's commitment to animal welfare.
Joy Catherine Evilsizor will be remembered for her unwavering kindness, dedication to her family, and the compassion she showed to both people and animals alike. Her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
