Joshuwa "Josh" Franklin Self passed away on December 22, 2021, at the age of 41 after a 3-year battle with Stage 4 rectal cancer. He worked at Covenant Health for over 20 years with the last half of his career spent in the IT Department. He also handled IT services for Buckhead Construction on a part-time basis for over 15 years. He loved computers, movies, Dr. Pepper, good food, friends and family. He was a compassionate, kind, generous, passionate, loving man with a great sense of humor, infectious laugh and a wonderful smile. Even though our time was too short with him, we are so blessed for the time we were given.
Josh was preceded in death by grandparents, Glenn and Otho Self, Charles Brown, David Nuchols; aunt, Glenda Starritt, and cousins, Christopher and Pete Brown, Shana Manis. He is survived by his Dad and Mom, Frank (Jodi) Self and Marcia (David) Carter; siblings, Nadea (Robbie) Rule, Candace (Matthew) Hunt, Josh Carter, Daniel Daws; grandmothers, Marie Brown, Jo Nuchols; uncles, Allen Self, Bill Starritt, Charlie (Janet) Brown; aunts, Angela Self, Linda (Randy) Gibson, Kay (Richard) McCauley; niece and nephew, Audrey and Jack Hunt; cousins, Michael and Branson Self, Chris and Anthony Starritt, Drew (Michelle) Duncan, Kelley (Johnny) Kincaid, Jason (Casey) Hicks, and special friends, Sheila, Renee, Dennis, Gordon, Edward and Valerie Nicholson and many more.
A Celebration of Josh's Life will be held at Smith Event Centers at the Life Event Center, 1410 Tuckaleechee Pike, in Maryville, on Saturday, January 15, 2022 from 2:00pm to 4:00p.m. Please follow all COVID protocol for the family and your safety. It will be a casual gathering of family and friends for a time to be together and share stories to celebrate his life just as Josh wanted. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Josh's memory to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or any other cancer center that is close to your heart.
