Josephine W. Grant, 98, of Albany passed away peacefully on April 7, 2022 at her home.
Jo was born in Grady County, Georgia on October 22, 1923. After graduating from Whigham High School, she attended Freeman Business College and went on to be employed as a secretary with Cudahy Packing Company from 1942 to 1951 and then as Purchasing Agent for Lykes Bros, Inc. until her retirement in 1983. After retirement, Jo became a volunteer working for 13 years starting with Albany Community Hospice and later with Phoebe Putney Hospital Breast Center on Meredyth Drive.
She was preceded in death by her parents Harvey and Maude Whigham of Cairo, Georgia and her husband of 53 years, Edward P. Grant, Sr.
She is survived by a son Edward (Buzz) Grant, Jr of St. Simons Island, Ga. and his wife Teri, a daughter Mary (Cookie) Hladik, of Harrisburg, NC and her husband Bill. Three grandchildren Ashley (Andrew) Sakmar of New York, Zachary (Rachel) Grant of Atlanta, Ga., and Jason (Nicole) Hladik of Concord, NC. Three great-grandchildren, Anderson Sakmar, Ayla Sakmar and Autumn Grant. She has one niece Kay Snider and a nephew, Jimmy Snider both of Orlando, Fla.
The family will receive friends at her Albany home on Friday, April 15th from 3:00 pm-5:00 pm. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, April 16th at 11:00 am at Crown Hill Cemetery with Rev. Lisa Edwards officiating.
