Joseph Norman Slade, age 83 of Jackson Twp. , passed away March 27, 2023.
He was born October 26, 1939, in Akron the son of the late William and Nellie (Clay) Slade.
Joe served in the Navy as Yeoman 3rd Class.
Joe retired from Nabisco after 27 years of service.
He enjoyed his retirement to the fullest by traveling with the love of his life, Doris. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He showed them how to fish, golf, woodwork, how to spit in the wind, plant pine trees, and to celebrate life. He was a very active member of Jackson Twp. Lions Club and a volunteer at Rose Lane Nursing Home for over 20 years. He enjoyed golfing with his family and friends, and was a member of Senior Golf Association.
Joe is survived by his wife, Doris; children, Mary and John Summers, Willa and Tim Smith; grandchildren, Richie and Ashley Summers, Shaun and Kait Summers, Michelle and Colt Weber, Scott and Molly Smith, Tyler Hall, and Derik Hall; great-grandchildren, Jayden, Stella, Sadie, Colt, Westen, Holden, Logan, and J.R, as well as the whole Friedman clan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William Slade; and sister, Mary Barbara Slade.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Jackson Lions Club or Crossroads Hospice. The family would like to send a special thank you and love to Riley and Breck of Crossroads Hospice.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
