Joseph W. Robbins, 75, of Frederick, MD, passed away unexpectedly at his home on January 16, 2023. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri on August 26, 1947. He was the son of the late Terry E. and Mary E. Robbins. He was married to his beloved wife Janice McCleaf Robbins, who died January 1, 2020, for 45 years.
Joe grew up in Westminster, MD, along with 3 brothers, and attended local schools. After high school, he went for training in upholstering and worked at Goodwill Industries for about 10 years, where he met and married Janice. He later worked in the plumbing trade and ended his work career as a civilian contractor in the recycling unit at Ft. Detrick, MD.
Joe was active in the Scouting Program, as a Boy Scout and later as an Assistant Leader in Troops #321 (Westminster) and #799 (Frederick) for over 67 years. He was a Life Scout and an honored Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow and was awarded the Wood Badge Training Award. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed teaching many camping skills. An accomplished backpacker, Joe hiked numerous trails in MD, PA and Canada, as well as the Grand Canyon, Philmont Scout Reservation (NM) and climbed all 46 High Peaks in the Adirondack Mts. (NY).
He is survived by daughter Karren Elizabeth Robbins and stepdaughter Jamie Fritz, grandchildren Rich Young, Jr., Brandon Fritz and Sean Wetzel, great-grandchildren Remy Young, Wyatt Fritz, Bentley Wetzel and Everly Wetzel. Also, brothers John Michael Robbins (his twin) and wife Georgia, David G. Robbins and wife Shelva, Robert E. Robbins and wife Debra, and special angel friend Debra Ousse.
