Joseph Marcel Poulin, age 80, a dedicated family man, of Sterling, VA, passed away peacefully at INOVA Loudoun Hospital on October 15, 2024 surrounded by his family. He was born on September 5, 1944 in Saint Evariste, Quebec, Canada to the late Henri-Louis Poulin and Irene Robert.
Marcel's journey was marked by hard work, love and kindness.
After graduating high school and spending many years working on his parent's dairy farm, maple syrup house and their "cabane a sucre." Marcel's next adventure in life was moving to the U.S.A. His life-long career began in 1964 in Silver Spring, MD working for his brother Normand as a drywall installer and finishing expert. His unwavering dedication to his work and his timeless spirit was obvious to everyone that knew him.
Marcel met his wife, Suzanne Breton, in 1967, when she too came from Canada to work for his brother and family. Marcel married Suzanne on May 25, 1968. After living in Maryland, the family settled in Herndon, VA for over 20 years. Marcel lived the remainder of his life in Loudoun County.
Marcel loved to work, where his talent and skills in drywall with the "French Touch" led him to meet many special friends before semi-retiring in 2014. He believed in the value of hard work "do it right or don't do it at all" often putting in long hours to provide for his family.
He enjoyed spending time gardening, building tree houses and making snow forts, igloos and ice slides/rinks in the winter for his children, visiting Ocean City for two weeks every summer and traveling to Quebec every Christmas with his family.
He was known for his daily routines of going to 7-Eleven every morning to pick up his Washington Post, hot dog and coffee. In the evenings, we could find him watching the news, Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, Washington Capitals hockey and Redskins/Commanders football on television.
Marcel is survived by sister Murielle Letourneau. He is survived by his son Dr. Mike (wife Martie) Poulin, and grandkids Kevin, (wife Amber) Austin, Alexa, Lauren and soon to be great-grandfather of baby boy Poulin. He is also survived by his daughter, Stacy (husband Ronny) White and grandkids Brady and Maddy White/Wills. He also leaves his companion of 50 years Suzanne Breton Poulin. Marcel is preceded in death by his siblings, Normand Poulin, Robert Poulin, Liette Fortin, Fernand Poulin, Paul Poulin and Michel Poulin.
Marcel loved his many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. His presence will be profoundly missed by all who knew him. Marcel leaves a legacy of love, hard work & kindness that will resonate in the hearts of those who knew him. The family would like to send a special thank you to Marcel's amazing medical team, including Dr. Dolcich, Dr. Rajendra and staff with the CCU Unit Team at INOVA Loudoun Hospital.
