PIERRO, Joseph W. "Joe", 99, of New Marlborough passed away peacefully on Monday, August 1, 2022. Joseph was predeceased by his wife of 68 years Joan (Eagan). His family includes his children James Pierro, Nancy Hannen, Joseph and his wife Mila Pierro, Liza and Stephen Pulsifer, Amy Carroll (predeceased) and his grandchildren Andrew Pierro, Emmett Pierro, Courtney Hannen, Lucas Hannen, Michael Pulsifer and Grace Pulsifer and his great-grandchild Kyle Hicks.
Joseph was predeceased by his parents Rosa and Vincenzo Pierro, his brothers and sisters, Frances Pierro, James Pierro, Anthony Pierro, Leonard Pierro, Mary Provenzano and Margaret Pierro. He is survived by his brother Alexander Pierro.
Joseph Pierro led a remarkable life; he grew up in Bristol, Connecticut during the depression and was inducted into the army in January 1943 at the age of 19. He was honorably discharged in 1946 serving in France, England, Belgium, Austria, and Germany. As a member of the Greatest Generation, the family only heard his stories of WWII well into his later years. The stories were recalled with tremendous emotion and clarity. He worked for GE in Pittsfield, MA as a draftsman for 40 years before retiring in 1988. Joe's passion was building projects including his first family home in Pittsfield and his last home on Lake Buel. His family would often marvel at the precision of his craftsmanship. He was a quiet polite man with a big heart who gathered close friends including a man named Gandhi from India with whom he would speak weekly. He loved to golf and would join friends for that endeavor. Although Joe was reserved, he often had a good joke in his back pocket to share. He will be greatly missed.
Funeral services for Joseph W. Pierro will be held on Saturday August 13 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of the Valley Church in Sheffield with Reverend Frank Furman officiating.
