Joseph Wesley Massey, age 76, of Loudon, Tennessee, passed away Sunday, August 11, 2024, surrounded by his loving wife Barb and his three children: Ryan, Laura and Robb.
Joseph-Joe, Dad, The Father, Papa, Food Pusher, Beeg One, Coach, the Donut Man-was known by friends and family as one of the friendliest, kindest men we knew. He worked hard through his career years, invested in his family, and created a warm home away from home in retirement with his wife Barb for their adult kids and families who visit multiple times a year.
Joe was born and raised in East Liverpool, OH. He attended Thiel College as an undergrad (where he met Barb), and he earned his MBA at Bowling Green State University. He worked several years for Reliance Electric and Nestl? Corporation, but it was at Eaton Corporation where he spent his last two decades of work before his retirement. At Eaton, Joe was sent to their locations all over the world as human resource developer, manager and problem solver. In 2013, he retired from Eaton and moved with his wife Barb to Tellico Village in Loudon, Tennessee, where he spent his remaining years. Joe loved golf, playing cards with Barb and friends, throwing his grandchildren off tubes behind his pontoon, grilling delicious steaks, traveling and vacationing in Florida with Barb, and hosting the whole extended family for holidays and vacations. Joe was so friendly and outgoing, and he never met a stranger. There was no neighbor out walking to whom Joe would not stop and talk, and no family member who would leave home without having eaten far too much "Papa toast."
Joe is preceded in death by his brother Jim Massey, his brother-in-law Kevin Sanford, and his parents James and Alberta Massey.
Joe is survived by his wife of 52 years Barb Massey, who he married on September 4, 1971. He is also survived by his three children and their families: His son, Ryan Massey (wife Jody) and their four children Julian, Isaiah, Jacob and Autumn; his daughter, Laura Elliott (husband Ryan) and their three children David, Hannah and Sarah; and his son Robb Massey (wife Jackie) and their three children Elijah, Nathan and Lily. From his family of origin, he is survived by his sisters, Joyce Turner (husband Art) and Christine Sanford.
A celebration of life for Joe will be held at a later date with family.
