Joseph A. Mason, formerly of Richfield, died peacefully 2/28/2021 in The Villages, FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Ethel Mason, his brother Del Russell and sister Veronica Mason.
Joe was born in Grand Forks, ND on December 17, 1941. He graduated from St. James High School and The University of North Dakota. He received his Masters from Mankato State University. He also was a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Financial Planner.
He was a well-respected Professor at the University of St. Thomas for many years. He was a mentor for both colleagues and students, especially when he was the Head of the Accounting Department. Joe had a passion for teaching. It was evident in his one-of-a-kind style. His charismatic ways for teaching and life spilled over in his love for coaching Little League and Girls Softball. Everyone who knew him, knew he gave it his all.
Joe is survived by his loving wife, Karen. His children, Greg, Mark, Paula (Bill) Smith, Sara (Scott) Anderson and their mother, Kaye (Kennedy), and Sam Madsen. Grandchildren- Jennifer, Marty, Mason, Brayden, Lucas, Cole, Cullen, Jared, Preston, and Darian and great-grandchildren, Peyton and Estelle. Sister in law, Shirley Russell and several nieces and nephews.
We all have a Joe Mason story. He will be missed. Burial will be in Grand Forks, ND at a later date.
