Joseph M. Litzelfelner, 90, of Montoursville, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 3, 2024. Joe was born on Jan. 16, 1934, in Blytheville, Arkansas to Joseph R. Litzelfelner and Marjory (Martin) Litzelfelner. Joe graduated from the University of Arizona in 1956 with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. He then served in the U.S. Navy aboard submarines and was stationed in San Diego, where he met and married Ruth A. Kurtz, of Montoursville, Pennsylvania. They shared 57 years of marriage.
In 1967, Joe, Ruth and their children moved to Rochester, New York, where Joe began a 22-year career at Eastman Kodak Company. While working for Kodak, he obtained master's degrees in both electrical engineering and statistics from Rochester Institute of Technology. While living in Rochester, Joe regularly volunteered at the Greece United Methodist Church and enjoyed photography, family vacations, and sailing. Following his retirement from Kodak, he and Ruth moved to Fredericksburg, Texas where Joe volunteered at Hill Country Memorial Hospital and the Nimitz Museum. Joe was an avid reader and quite adept at crossword puzzles. He also liked woodworking, coin collecting and watching western movies. Joe and Ruth enjoyed living in Fredericksburg for 26 years before moving to Pennsylvania in 2018.
Joe is survived by his son, Kurt J. Litzelfelner, and his daughter, Kara Litzelfelner. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth (Kurtz) Litzelfelner.
Visitation will be from 1:30 to 2 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 733 Broad Street, Montoursville, with Pastor Martin Coffey officiating. A burial will follow at the Kurtz Cemetery on Mosteller Rd., Warrensville, Pennsylvania.
