Joseph L. Hodges Jr, (78), passed away on Friday, April 25, 2025, from complications after his surgery. He is survived by his loving family: his beloved wife Laura of 57 years, his sons Joseph Hodges III, (wife, Rachel), Jason Hodges, (wife, Melanie); 5 grandsons Kraig Whitmore, Jacob Hodges, Jesse Hodges, Austin Hodges, and Jayson Hodges; 1 granddaughter Riley Hodges, and 1 great-granddaughter Victoria Whitmore. He has 2 surviving sisters in Florida, Peggy Hawkins and Susan Luke along with 9 nephews, 1 niece and multiple cousins in Florida, North Carolina, Virginia and Washington.
His two passions were building houses (JV Custom Homes) in Texas and Florida. He like to say, "building peoples dreams is so satisfactory". Most of his customers became personal friends. He was well respected and liked by his customers, subcontractors, and associates. He never left a bill unpaid or a customer unhappy. His other passion was barbecue (JL's Lone Star BBQ in North Carolina and Texas) with his sons. He was known for his brisket, pulled pork, peach cobbler, and Christmas fruit cakes. He was a prior member of West Conroe Baptist Church and a current member of First Montgomery Baptist Church.
He was a disabled Army vet who lost his sight in 2018, and was given a seeing-eye dog, Bruce, from the Guide Dog Foundation in Smithtown, New York. The two were joined together by love and devotion and were never seen without each other. He wished that every disabled vet could have a dog like Bruce. So, if you would like to donate to this foundation, it would be a true blessing to many others. https://www.guidedog.org/
As per his wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial services. But Joe loved you and hoped to see you in Heaven one day.
